Standard Scratch is -3 or -4, on this 10 putt course.
We have two pre-qualifying events, for those who wish to play ScratchPutter, the first of which is called '4-Putt'.
Players must take 10 putts or fewer when taking on this 4-putt challenge, with all putts played into the same hole. Single putt as many times as you can; most competent players will need 6 or more putts, in total:

We have two pre-qualifying events and the second one is called '1-Putt'. Each player has 4 balls and it is played on the Championship ScratchPutter course.

ScratchPutter was first played at Royston, and it is still played there on a regular basis, to this day. What makes ScratchPutter unique is that it was designed to be played on challenging greens at many Golf Clubs, including Royal Blackheath in London.

Why play ScratchPutter?

When the pressure is on, do you ever miss silly, short putts?
Do you sometimes become overly self-conscious and end up missing two-footers, including the straight up hill ones that everyone expects to get in?

Have you ever experienced 'the yips', those sudden, involuntary wrist spasms, twitches, or freezing moments during a stroke?

If you answered 'yes' to any of the above, try learning to better master your own game by playing ScratchPutter under pressure, with us.
Focus on practising 'putts' rather than practising putting. (We don't tell you how to putt; but you can learn while with us):

Maybe a friendly low-handicap player could assist you while you learn to raise your game. Playing with better golfers can be a good way to gain knowledge and experience.

Better still, maybe your local professional could give you putting lessons before and while you play ScratchPutter; think of them as your very own professional caddy.
ScratchPutter can be played whatever the weather (when the putting green is open). As such, players have an opportunity to gain experience of playing in conditions similar to those found when playing a full round of golf, throughout the seasons.

Why play ScratchPutter?
Four words will suffice: Do not, first time!

Instead, join us to enjoy the social side, spending time around the Clubhouse, and maybe have a go at playing the pre-qualifiers, instead, just for fun.
Play 4-Putt, and if you can get down in 20 putts or fewer, you will have some fun.
Should you get the urge to play-on, it is okay to try just one hole of 1-Putt. (You never know, one might go in. and you could end up beating some of those who play all of the holes.)

Some ex-golfers putt well; if you are one of them, don't rule yourself out before giving it a go.
Those thinking about playing golf for the first time would do well to have a putt, to gain confidence; if you play other sports, who knows, maybe you could end up being the best ScratchPutter player on the day.

Let's also not underplay the importance of getting out socially.

Join us and spend time around the Clubhouse with business acquaintances and/or personal friends.

If playing, make sure that you follow the Golf Club dress code, on and off the putting green. (Set aside 20 minutes to play ScratchPutter.)
Make sure you bring some suitable soft-soled shoes, and or nice socks. While with us, we can lend you a putter and the balls.

Where can ScratchPutter be played?
ScratchPutter was designed to be played at any Golf Club that has a proper Putting Green. By that, we mean:

The Green is large enough to accommodate 9 well-placed holes.
​

The Green should have undulations, to enable players to enjoy challenges that are similar to those found on most golf courses.
​

We like interesting characteristics, such as two-tier putting greens, as well as other real-course features that can be made to come into play.
​
Small putting greens that have 6 holes are large enough to accommodate our 1-Putt course, which we use as a ScratchPutter pre-qualifier at Social and Business Events.
